During this time of social distancing and self-quarantining, we created a challenge to connect and inspire our community: Complete a virtual marathon by the end of Recovery Month (September 30, 2020). No crowds. No PortaPotties. Join your friends at The Meadows as we embrace this challenging time in our lives by celebrating our community and our health. After all, as anyone who has come out the other side knows, recovery is not a sprint, it’s a marathon.
How It Works…
Starting June 1, we’re running a virtual marathon! Run or walk at your own pace, when and where you want. Just make sure to complete your journey of 26.2 miles by September 30, 2020. That date coincides with the end of Recovery Month — the perfect time to celebrate your virtual achievement!
After you complete your virtual marathon, we will reward you with a commemorative race bib and medal, mailed to your home. Our race medal’s design is inspired by the landscape around our flagship Meadows campuses in Wickenberg, Arizona, where we’ve been a proud member of the recovery community for more than 40 years. We hope the cactus, foothills, and desert sun will continue to inspire you long after you cross the (virtual) finish line.
Share Your Results
We want to see your smiling face along the journey! Be sure to follow @themeadowswickenburg on Facebook and use the hashtag #MeadowsVM2020. Upload photos, share personal stories, or brag about your times. We’re all in this together.
To submit your official results and receive your medal and bib, email [email protected]. Please allow 2 weeks for delivery.
Is there a time limit?
Collect your 26.2 miles over the next four months. Whether you complete a half mile a day or complete 3 miles each day, it’s your virtual race. We are just proud to be there with you.
Do I have to run?
No, most people will walk, so choose the pace that works for you. The main thing is to get out there!
How can I track my miles?
There are many options out there to track your mileage, such as a FitBit, Apple Watch, or using an app. If you are looking for an app to use, a possible option is Strava.
How much does it cost?
The registration fee is $25. This helps us cover the cost of postage and producing the medals, ribbons and race bibs.
Will there be future virtual races?
Maybe, depending on the response to this inaugural event. If you have suggestions, please share them with us!
